December 2020-April 2021
Before we begin, look to the right. If that doesn’t say you’re following the blog make sure you put your email in and I’ll send you free downloads from here on out!
In 2017 I started a list of my goals and accountability tracking for the year. I reached and exceeded every goal.
If you’re looking for more book or podcast recommendations you can read my other book reviews from this year you can catch up here.
The goal of this section of the blog is to share a glimpse into what inspires, motivates and teaches me. Out of the books I read, I only bring up the ones I would suggest taking a look at…there are still a few that get left out; entirely based on my own opinions.
So where do I find all these books to read? Lots of places. I follow the Book of the Month Club on Instagram and I get weekly suggestions from my daily news source, theSkimm. You can sign up for free here using my referral code!
Read For Entertainment
This popular, award-winning read was on my list for months. I thought it was interesting as I read that I pictured the main character, Kya, as being a black girl but toward the end it was mentioned she was a white girl. I’m not sure if this was something purposefully done by the author and, if so, well done. This coming of age story includes a love story and ends with a murder trial. You’ll feel empathy and confusion and all the things.
This novel is one that should be made in to a movie! It was gripping, twisty, and you will fly through reading until the last sentence. This suspenseful thriller calls out every assumption in your subconscious and turn it on it’s head. I love clever books like this which dive in to the depths of jealousy, marriage, love triangles, obsession and much more. You’ll love it!
This domestic thriller novel is the role model of telling you just enough from the beginning (like she killed her husband) but he’s missing (and she didn’t expect that part). So while the widow is trying to figure out who moved her dead husband and foiled her plans, which we hear in her thoughts, she is also attempting to evade detectives. The layers of questions and continually getting your guesses at whodunnit proved wrong had me picking this up as often as I could. Highly recommend!
It’s a snow day at a French chalet but the visiting group gets killed off ‘one by one’. I will say I was interested but there was a lack of shock or awe which made the doubts and guiding questions from the characters a bit forced and redundant. The ending was what I was most interested in so I stuck around. Is this the worst? By no means. Would I say play this as an audiobook as you go through your day or as a starter for thriller genre readers? Yup.
I loved this unique story! I wish it was a movie (if you’re reading this and it ever is, let me know on Instagram!) The wishes and desires we make and trade with ‘the Gods who answer after dark’ plays on a young girl who wants to live forever….and does. But no one will remember her. A life time of globetrotting and surviving places her in pivotal moments in history but the rules she must live by means she gets creative with leaving a legacy. The girl meets a boy and (spoiler) he also made a deal with the devil. What happens when these two meet? Read to find out and follow Addie for over 300 years of her life.
This recommendation had me craving a summer in Alaska (probably not living there because this book also made me think I probably couldn’t make it haha!) Another book I would love to watch as a movie. A former Vietnam POW relocates his family from Seattle to Alaska, The Last Frontier. At first, the entire family was elated and in love with their new home. But as a long, dark winter season comes upon them, dad’s true colors come out to his wife, daughter and new neighbors. Alcohol, jealousy, a little Romeo and Juliet with a family feud, resilience, murder, identity changes…..this literally has it all and more. Can’t recommend you read this enough.
