FEB MAR 2020 Book Club

April and May 2020

Before we begin, look to the right. If that doesn’t say you’re following the blog make sure you put your email in and I’ll send you free downloads from here on out!

In 2017 I started a list of my goals and accountability tracking for the year. I reached and exceeded every goal.

If you’re looking for more book or podcast recommendations you can read my other book reviews from this year you can catch up here.

The goal of this section of the blog is to share a glimpse into what inspires, motivates and teaches me. Out of the books I read, I only bring up the ones I would suggest taking a look at…there are still a few that get left out; entirely based on my own opinions.

So where do I find all these books to read? Lots of places. I follow the Book of the Month Club on Instagram and I get weekly suggestions from my daily news source, theSkimm. You can sign up for free here using my referral code!

Read For Entertainment

9 strangers Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

This started out slow for me but when it picked up near the middle-end it did pick up in a great way! Every story line that had been building up made sense. There was wry humor, intriguing guessing games and surprise events with a sinister leader at a health resort (which would scare the you-know-what out of most of us) end up with life-changing results. I’ve heard this Australian novel is also soon to be a series starring Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy. The author also wrote Big Little Lies so my hopes are the series will be just as intricate.

dear girls Dear Girls by Ali Wong

While these are real letters to the comedian’s daughters, which should place this down below?, DG is goin’ here because it was so entertaining! The mix of her raunchy humor mixed in with heartfelt family memories and hard-earned life lessons was endearing to hear narrated by her and her husband. If you’ve had a few wild days or stories you wish you could tell your kids someday (maybe) you’ll enjoy this book. PS: Wong is also very focused on portraying her Asian-American roots and women’s rights.

Read For Improvement

corner of ovalFrom the Corner of the Oval: A Memoir by Beck Dorey Stein

Though this audiobook read by the author was extremely entertaining, it’s memoir status is why it’s placed in the ‘improvement’ section. aka life lessons and reality. Beck was a stenographer during the Obama administration and takes us on the journey we all know too well; personal and professional life in your 20s. She disguised a majority of the characters for privacy’s sake and online searches are full of assumptions and educated guesses. This is Sex and The City, Scandal and more so even if you’re not into politics you’ll enjoy this!

educated Educated by Tara Westover

I loved this memoir! I’m sure you’ve seen photos of it plastered around the internet from your friends – and for good reason. Westover sheds light on her extremely sheltered upbringing in a Morman family in Idaho. She tells us stories about how the things she was told, taught (and not taught) and what went untreated molded her in to the woman she was. She was shunned by her family, faced heart-wrenching tragedy and abuse and it wasn’t until her astounding journey through a true education that she realized how wrong so many things had been. I highly recommend this to anyone in high school or above.

We had Marin look at our business image. I was very impressed with her analysis. It was in depth and revealed some very important areas where we needed to improve or change. She brought up strategies I hadn’t even thought of and will implement. Donze & Associates would heartily recommend her to any other company.
